Danube River Flooding: Water Levels Rise and Peak in Budapest
Budapest, Hungary - September 19th 2024

On June 8th, 2013, the Danube River surged to a catastrophic level of 891 cm, flooding streets and neighborhoods on both banks. The rising waters impacted daily life and caused widespread damage. In mid-September 2024, the river reached a dangerous 832 cm, once again submerging streets along its path. This prompted an emergency state, leading to the closure of nearby tram lines and the Batthyány metro station on the Buda side. Traffic signs were the first victims of this event.
